We arrived for a two night stay, courtesy of Buy-A-Gift. As we drove into the parking space Carol came to meet us, a very nice personal touch, and a very... read more friendly welcome indeed. Throughout our brief stay, Carol was very helpful, friendly, informative and accommodating. It is impossible to fault the warmth of the welcome.
And it was impossible to fault anything else really. The farmhouse is set in a lovely location on the northern slopes of Weardale, with lovely views across the valley, and an air of peace and calm. Our room was large, extremely comfortable, equipped beyond most bed and breakfast experiences we have previously enjoyed, and was very clean. The bathroom was large and perfectly fine for us. The wi-fi worked really well. Itself often an issue in the countryside, but certainly not here.
At breakfast we enjoyed home made bread (delicious) with our hearty English, and Carol does offer variations, as evidenced by my wife's full plate of beans and mushrooms on toast!
This is a professionally run place. It is a working farm, as well as a bed and breakfast venue. The two didn't really overlap on our visit, but you can tell that there is a real thought process involved in running the two side-by-side. On the B&B side it is clear that Carol clearly "knows what she's doing". And I mean that very positively.
There are some great places to visit within 20 miles or so in all directions, to suit many tastes, outdoor and indoor, and sat, as it is, between two villages, there are plenty of places to eat, to suit all budgets.
I always review places I've visited, and when doing so, I think "would I return here?". In this case, the answer is an unequivocal "yes".
